The Art Fabian Company has a committee formed to try to preserve the estate and the Heritage of the Smiths. (not their real name). In the community where these people live there is a movement to declutter the house. In other words to get rid of any excess stuff you don't use.
This is all very well and fine if you are living in the house but what happens if the house is given to someone else? Or if this elderly couple, for example, dies and the house passes on to others who do not have the same way of living?
The question of what to do with the possessions has been on my mind for quite a while now. I am an avid shopper and because I do not like to go away empty handed from a shopping excursion I frequent thrift shops. You would be surprised how many expensive things are practically given away at such establishments.
I for one, would like the expensive antiques and collectibles of the Smith establishment to go into the proper hands. Actually I would like them to stay intact as a collection. They are a blueprint for the Smith way of enjoying the fine art of entertaining, music and creating an agreeable and elegant place to do so. The whole collection is put together so that if someone would like to continue this way of life much of the work is ready made.
But at the very least I would like the collection, if it has to be dispersed, to go into the right hands. And to get the price they deserve if they do so.
So the next few blog posts will talk about some of the history of the Smith Collection.
